Product Description

Nine months ago, Point Man and his F.E.A.R. squad were tapped to stop a telepathically gifted cannibal who had begun a murderous rampage. Point Man learned the target was his brother, Paxton Fettel, working alongside their tortured and psychically powerful mother, Alma Wade. Despite this revelation, Point Man followed orders to destroy them and subsequently ravaged the surrounding city and most of his F.E.A.R. team. Now, it is clear that Alma's psychic influence survived- and worse, she is about to birth something that could destroy the world. Fettel has returned from death with an unclear agenda, refusing to leave Point Man's side and asking for help to reach Alma. The remaining F.E.A.R. squad is still trying to complete their mission. With his chain of command broken and Point Man calling his own shots, where will his allegiance lie?

Gameplay

As with the previous two releases in the F.E.A.R. Franchise, F.E.A.R. 3 is a FPS with Horror gameplay. Players experience action both from perspective of Paxton Fettel - resurrected from the headshot he received in the previous game - and his brother Point Man, who was the trigger man. Since Fettel was indeed killed in the earlier encounter, his presence in the game is almost ghostlike, with he relying on a devastating range of telekinetic powers, including the ability to possess the bodies of the living in order to perform certain physical tasks. Point Man on the other hand is quite corporal and is a super soldier with expertise in a wide range of weaponry. He also has loyalties to the AI F.E.A.R. Operatives that populate the game. The problem with this is that the operative's goal is to eliminate the growing power of Alma, the mother of both Point Man and Paxton Fettel. Because of this layers will face choices that will pit duty against family loyalties. Both characters have access to mech units encountered throughout the game.

F.E.A.R. 3 also features an impressive range of multiplayer options. The first of these is a co-op mode that allows one player to take on the powers of Fettel, while the other assumes those of Point Man as they work together during an uneasy truce. An additional multiplayer mode is available that tests your ability to work together under stress and constant fire to get your squad from point A to point B as a unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not half as good as the first two, July 31, 2011

I have to admit I'm a bit torn about the 3rd installment of FEAR, and I'm a big fan of the first two. I've just finished the single-player campaign as Point Man, but most of what I have to say will probably apply to co-op. I'll admit that I haven't played through as Fattel yet, so I concede that I have no idea what the game is like if you play as him.

On one hand, they've polished the gameplay to perfection. Character movement is smooth and feels natural, and target assist helps you spray bullets a little less than the first two required. The armored suit parts are fun (if a little short) and as with FEAR 2, help break up the pace. Creeping around enclosed environments is fun, but a good old fashioned blow everything up mech segment is a nice way to give yourself the occasional reset.

On the other hand, it's just not that interesting. You end up back in the city that got the "physic nuke" from Alma in the last game, and it's crawling with crazed people... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game!! But......., June 24, 2011

This review is from: F.E.A.R. 3 (Video Game)
When I first heard last year that F.E.A.R. 3 was on the making I couldn't wait for its release. I got the game the day it came out. That day I didn't do anything but play F.E.A.R. 3 the whole day (it was my day off from work). This game has non-stop action. The cover system is really cool, reminded me of Killzone 2's cover system and also how the guns on the floor shine so you can spot them. I had a lot of fun playing the campaign. But the one thing I felt it missed was the "horror" part. There were some parts of the game were I felt jumpy, but not scared like the first F.E.A.R. game made me feel. I wish the game would've been scarier to the point were I would have to sleep with the lights on. Other than that, awesome game.

As somebody who has played ALL the FEAR games and I mean all of them, I was expecting FEAR 3 to move up progressively as technology advances and here's why.

I am only reviewing the single campaign.
PROS:
+ Solid FPS and lots and lots of weapons to choose from
+ Very familiar FEAR gameplay settings, if you played the FEAR series there is zero learning curve
+ The mech option is a welcome feature from the FEAR 2 installment
+ New fight locations include somewhere in South America at the start of the game (I'm guessing Brazil or Mexico)
+ Some scary scenes and realistic settings
+ Some answers satisfy those who are following the FEAR plot

CONS:
- Graphics at times are wonky and does not offer anything more than the previous FEAR games
- The story is ridiculously concluded without any satisfaction from the original FEAR game
- Get some tylenol ready as some moments of gameplay esp. the ghost fights can... Read more
